Marie Humphreys

Pine Mountain Lake resident Marie Humphreys died Feb. 15 in Groveland. She was 74.

Mrs. Humphreys was born and raised in Kodiak, Alaska, to Oscar Alf Nelson and Alexandria (Gregoroff) Nelson. She was the youngest of eight children.

She met Bill Humphreys in 1956, and they married in 1957 in Mountain View. They resided in Sunnyvale until Mr. Humphreys retired in 1991. Then they built a home in Pine Mountain Lake and moved to the area.

Mrs. Humphreys was a fan of the San Francisco 49ers, San Francisco Giants and tennis. She was a member of the Sunnyvale Tennis Club for nearly two decades and continued playing late into her 60s. She enjoyed reading and entertaining at home, but especially enjoyed frequent excursions with her girlfriends hiking, golfing, going to Broadway musicals and shopping.

Mrs. Humphreys was preceded in death by her father and mother; brothers, Don, Jack, Archie and Sammy; and sisters, Alma and Isabel.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Bill Humphreys, of Pine Mountain Lake; son, David Humphreys and daughter-in-law Kimberly, of Cameron Park; daughter, Patricia Humphreys, of San Jose; grandchildren, Christine and Scott Humphreys, of California; two great-grandsons; sister, Jean Zampa, of Mountain View; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. March 16 at Evangelical Free Church of Groveland, 19172 Ferretti Road.
