Past meets future on Koniag’s new Facebook page

Koniag, Inc. launched its all-new corporate Facebook page today, providing users of the social media site with a new, interactive way to learn more about the corporation and the Alutiiq people of the Kodiak region.

“We’re very excited about being able to engage directly with our Shareholders, Descendants, employees and the community,” said Will Anderson, President and CEO of Koniag. “Our team is working to take advantage of all the tools that make Facebook a meaningful, valuable way to interact with our friends.’”

Koniag’s Facebook page will be updated regularly with news, photos and links of interest, but visitors to the page will find much more than current events. The corporation has used Facebook’s “timeline” feature to track Kodiak’s history back to the Russian colonial days of the 18th century. Koniag’s timeline includes landmarks for the Alutiiq people and the modern Alaska Native corporation, as well as photos, historical images and links to further information.

“With Koniag Shareholders, Descendants and employees spread out throughout the country, Facebook provides an ideal channel for Koniag to be able to communicate the many cultural and corporate events we participate in and stay connected with our extended family. We can also help educate the public about who we are, where we come from and the values by which we live,” Anderson said.
