(October 18, 2011) Rosa Lee Wallace, beloved wife of Leon and mother of Judy, passed away on Oct. 18, 2011. Rosa was born on Feb. 3, 1951, in Unga. She was the daughter of Bert and Susie (Pestrikoff) Lee. Rosa was one of 18 children. Rosa first came to Kodiak in 1959. She was in Kodiak during the 1964 tidal wave, watching it from her house (where the seminary now stands). After high school, Rosa worked at National Bank of Alaska (Wells Fargo), KANA, and attended several colleges.
Rosa finally settled on a college in Houston, Texas, where she met her loving husband. Rosa received a teaching degree and six days later was married. Rosa wanted to return to Kodiak and did so in 1986.
She came home to teach at the Kodiak Christian School and taught various grades for the next 20 years.
Judy, Rosa’s little miracle, was born shortly after returning home. Rosa performed various tasks at her church — anything from teaching preschoolers to adults, playing the piano or serving anywhere she was needed.
Rosa loved her lord and knew the Bible very well. Her favorite scripture was, “But they that wait upon the lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles: they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk and not faint.”
Rosa was an avid reader and loved to share the books she read.
Rosa is preceded in death by her parents, Virginia Kvasnikoff, Nellie Guthrie, Norman Brandal and Nels Brandal. She is survived by Cristen, Flossie Gilbert of Sand Point, Glen Brandal of Port Lions, Sam Brandal of Sand Point, Meryle Gunderson of Sand Point, Dan Brandal of Anchorage, Bjorne Lee of Seward, Frances Doran of San Diego, Laivy Gunderson of Sand Point, numerous nieces and nephews, her precious daughter Judy, and her loving husband Leon. A memorial service will be held at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, at the Kodiak Church of the Nazarene, 1109 Selief Lane. Condolences may be sent to Leon and Judy Wallace, P.O. Box 121, Kodiak, AK 99615.
Rosa, you will be missed
