Koniag Announces Leadership Transition

Koniag announced this week that Tom Panamaroff, a longtime leader and respected voice in the Kodiak Island region, will retire from his role as Regional & Legislative Affairs Executive on March 31, 2026.

Panamaroff’s decades of service have strengthened Koniag’s relationships and reputation locally, statewide, and nationally. His deep knowledge of the Kodiak Island region and his commitment to sharing that knowledge have made him a trusted advisor and mentor across the corporation.

“Over 35 years serving Koniag, Tom has been far more than a board member and executive leader — he is a staunch advocate for our Alutiiq Shareholders and a trusted mentor to me and many others. His wisdom and integrity have shaped both this organization and the leaders who will carry it forward,” Koniag Chairman & CEO Ron Unger said.

His professionalism, vision, and advocacy have helped shape Koniag into the strong, growing company it is today.

“This transition has been thoughtfully planned for years and aligns with Tom’s personal goals and Koniag’s leadership succession plan,” said Koniag President Shauna Hegna. “Tom’s unwavering dedication to our people and our mission will leave a lasting legacy. We are excited for him to begin the next chapter of his life.”

Marya Halvorsen will assume oversight of Koniag’s Advocacy Department, effective April 1. Koniag will also recruit and hire a new team member to support in-region advocacy efforts.

Koniag’s Lands Department will move under the leadership of Stacey Simmons, Vice President of Koniag Region Investments, beginning in April.
