Ron Unger selected as CEO/Marty Shuravloff appointed to Board

Cama’i Shareholders,

With an eye to the future and continued growth, the Koniag Board of Directors is pleased to announce our selection of Ron Unger as Koniag’s CEO and our appointment of Marty Shuravloff to fill Ron’s seat on the Koniag Board.

As Interim CEO and Board Chairman, Ron was instrumental in helping Koniag through a successful leadership transition resulting in a strong team of business leaders and sustainable earnings growth. His hire allows for long-term stability as Koniag continues our journey to provide meaningful benefits to you, our Shareholders.

Prior to being hired as the CEO, Ron served on the Koniag Board for 14 years, with 6 years as Chairman. Twice during his time on the Board, Ron stepped in as acting CEO in 2013 to launch the current growth strategy, and then again in 2017 when former CEO Liz Perry had to step down unexpectedly to take care of her immediate family. In both instances, Koniag realized improved financial results and delivered increased Shareholder benefits.

In order to ensure leadership continuity, the Board has asked Ron to serve as a non-voting Chair until the Board votes in a new Chair. In accordance with Koniag bylaws, the Board may elect a Chair who is not a Board member. In such instances, the Chair focuses on facilitating Board discussion and cannot vote on Board actions.

The Board is also delighted to welcome Marty Shuravloff to fill Ron’s seat. Marty brings a wealth of experience from his two previous stints on the Koniag Board and his more than two decades leading the Kodiak Island Housing Authority. During that time Marty oversaw the rehabilitation of 200 houses and the construction of 90 more. His impressive resume also includes being elected Chair of the National American Indian Housing Council and being a governor’s appointee to the Alaska Housing Finance Corporation Board for more than fifteen years. We are confident that Marty’s business acumen, in-region knowledge, and unwavering commitment to Koniag will make him an asset in the Boardroom.

Sincerely,

Tyan Hayes, Acting Vice Chair and Secretary

Matt Olsen, Treasurer

Alex Cleghorn, Director

Tony Drabek, Director

Dr. Sven Haakanson, Jr., Director

Koniag Appoints Anthony (Tony) Drabek to Board of Directors

Continuing Koniag’s growth and stability requires putting the right people on the team. In January, Koniag’s Board believes it did just that, appointing Tony Drabek to the Board of Directors.

Tony was the President/CEO of Natives of Kodiak for more than a quarter century and helped start Northrim Bank, serving on its Board for more than two decades. He knows his way around financial statements and has been involved in more than a few mergers and acquisitions. However, his experience and leadership goes well beyond business and Alaska. He served in the United States Army for four years, including one tour in Vietnam and one in Korea.

“Serving our Shareholders and building our company; it is at the heart of all we do at Koniag,” shared Ron Unger, Koniag Interim CEO and Board Chairman. “Tony’s background and experience are going to help us with that as we continue our positive trajectory in providing meaningful benefits to our Shareholders.”

When accepting the seat, Tony was humble. “It is an honor to have this opportunity,” he said. “I am excited at the prospect of working with and learning from the dedicated men and women on this Board. This is a group that has done a very good job of managing our corporation and I am glad to be a part of it,” Tony said.

Tony’s home is Kodiak and he enjoys spending time with his family: his wife Sandee, his brother Roger McCracken, daughter Alisha, her husband Helm Johnson and Tony and Sandee’s three grandsons, Teyo, Fayd and Taavi. The family has many cousins they see regularly as well.

Board Secretary Tyan Hayes said, “We are blessed to have someone of his caliber accept this role. His resume, as well as his ties to our community and company fit perfectly into what Koniag needs on its Board.”

Tony replaces long time Board member Brent Parsons who passed away unexpectedly in November of last year. “Our Board and Shareholders miss Brent terribly because of his kindness, commitment to Koniag and business acumen,” said Ron Unger. “While Brent cannot be replaced, Koniag committed to replacing Brent with someone of similar skills, and Tony fits in that mold.” Tony’s term goes through 2020.
